José António Salcedo graduated in Electrotechnical Engineering from the University of Porto in 1973 and received his Masters and PhD degrees from Stanford University in California in 1974 and 1978, respectively, as a NATO and Fulbright fellowship.
Back to Portugal in the 1980s, he co-founded INESC-Porto and its Optoelectronics Center. In 1994/95, he served as Manager of the Praxis XXI Program, a co-financing program for Science and Technology. Until 2002, José António Salcedo developed an academic career at Univ. of Porto, first as Associate of Physics Professor in the Faculty of Sciences and later as a Electrical Engineering Professor at the Faculty of Engineering.
He is a member of Academia Europaea and the main professional organizations of the sector (IEEE, OSA and SPIE). Received the IEEE Engineering Achievement Award 2009. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 papers published internationally and 10 patents registered in the USA.
