On the forthcoming 11 February, there will be a visit to the inside of São João Bridge designed by the Engineer Edgar Cardoso and built more than 25 years ago.

The visit will be preceded by a conference by Engineer Luís Afonso, collaborator of Engineer Edgar Cardoso, during which he will disclose the vicissitudes of the project and the complexity of this work. At the time of its construction, this bridge that is almost 1000 metres long, broke the record with the 250 metres in the size of its central span. The “secrets” of how this achievement was designed and how this pioneer work was conceived will be disclosed by the Engineer Luís Afonso. During the visit it will be possible to explore the inside of the beam which is about 6 metres high, go down one of the pillars laid in the middle of the river and realise its magnitude and the genius of the design of its author.
