Professor Adélio Mendes (born in 1964) earned a doctorate from the University of Porto in 1993.
He is Professor at FEUP-DEQ; Teaches the UCs of Chemical Engineering Practices III and Renewable Energies I and coordinates the master's dissertations in business environment.
He coordinates a large research team with interests in photovoltaic cells, photoelectrochemical cells (including solar batteries), photoelectronduction of CO2, redox flow batteries, photocatalysis, polymer membrane electrolyte fuel cells, membrane reactors and electrochemical reactors, separation processes with membrane and adsorption.
Professor Mendes is the author of more than 280 scientific articles and 22 patent families and author of a textbook. He has projects FCT, AdI, European Commission and by National and International companies. In 2013 he was awarded an ERC Advanced Research Grant of ca. 2 Meuros; Is currently the partner or coordinator of 5 European projects, in addition to the ERC. He was awarded several prizes including Air Products Faculty Ecellence 2011 Award, Solvay & Hovione Innovation Challenge SHIC'11 prize, Ramos Catarino Innovation Award (2011), ACP Award - Diogo Vasconcelos Applied Research (2011), Municipal Gold Medal of Merit (2015), University of Coimbra Award (2016) and FEUP (2017) Scientific Excellence Award.
