José Carlos Loureiro was born on the 2nd of December of 1925 in Covilhã.
In 1946 finished the Special Architecture Course at ESBAP with 18 values in Composition and received the Carlos Ramos prize.
In 1947 he received a prize of Associação Industrial Portuense. That same year he was part of the group of architects who founded ODAM.
In 1950 José Carlos Loureiro took the final exam course with 19 values ??and was invited by Carlos Ramos to teach at ESBAP, where he remained until 1972. In 1991 he returned to teaching at FAUP in the discipline of Construction.
With the Pavilhão dos Desportos project he received an honorable mention at the XV Olympiad Exhibition in Helsinki and participated in the São Paulo Biennial.
Participated in the Congress of U.I.A. - (International Union of Architects in Lisbon) in (1953), Exhibition of Portuguese Architecture in London (1956) and Contemporary Portuguese Architecture in Washington (1958).
Between 1972 and 1974 José Loureiro was councilman in the Municipality of Porto.http://portoinnovationhub.pt/en/banco/2017/04/22/jose-carlos-loureiroIn 1987 he was Vice-President of the Association of Portuguese Architects.
In 2009 he received the Gold Medal of the City of Porto.
In 2012 he was honored as an honorary member of the Architects’ Order.
During his intense professional activity he won and integrated juries of diverse competitions.
