Professor at the University of Aveiro.
Degree in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP); Doctor and Aggregate in Civil Engineering by FEUP. President of the Portuguese Society of Seismic Engineering (SPES).
Member of the Social Bodies of ICOMOS of Portugal.
Member of the Board of CICOP-Net Portugal.
Member of the Infrastructure Committee of the Diocese of Porto.
Specialist in Structures by the Order of Engineers.
Member of the Board of Engineers.

He is the editor of 15 books and magazines with national and international publication, author of 73 chapters of national and international books, 91 articles in international journals, 44 in national journals and more than 500 articles in national and international conferences. He is the supervisor of numerous PhD and Masters theses.

In partnership with the Regional Directorate of Culture - North and with the General Direction of Cultural Heritage (DGPC) has been accompanying the interventions of rehabilitation and structural strengthening of the national heritage. He has worked in several projects of collaboration with the industrial sector looking for to develop techniques of repair and reinforcement of existing structures, having this collaboration originated more than 500 technical reports.

It has been related to hundreds of projects of Rehabilitation emphasizing those that finished recently or that are still in course:
Igreja da Misericórdia de Viana do Castelo –  Stability, Project of Restoration and Conservation. Work completed in 2013.
Sé Catedral de Santarém - Rehabilitation of the Cathedral and Diocesan Museum of Santarém - European Union Award for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards 2016 and Vasco Vilalva Prize of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation - 8th edition. Work completed in 2014.
Torre de Vilar Information Center and Reformulation of Support Structures. Work completed in 2013.
Torre Medieval de Barcelos - Rehabilitation of the Medieval Tower. Work completed in 2014.
Sé Catedral de Beja - Project for the Conservation, Safeguarding and Valorization of the Building Set. Work completed in 2015.
Irmandade dos Clérigos – Project of Structures inserted in the Restoration and Conservation of the Church and Tower of Clérigos. Prize Vasco Vilalva of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation - 9th edition. Work completed in 2015.
Church of São Salvador de Travanca, Amarante - Restoration and Conservation Project. Work completed in 2013.
Church of Real, Amarante - Restoration and Conservation Project. Work completed in 2016.
Church of São Francisco, Évora - Project of Recovery and Requalification of the Church of São Francisco. Work completed in 2015.
Sé Catedral de Lisboa, Lisboa - Inspection and Diagnosis, Project of Installation of the Archaeological Nucleus and Recovery of the Lower and Upper Cloisters. Execution project delivered.
Casa de Andresen - University of Porto - Recovery and Requalification Project. Work completed in 2015.
Church of S. João Baptista, Tomar – Recovery and Requalification Project. Execution project delivered.
Casa Salabert - Inspection and Diagnosis. Recovery and Requalification Project. Work completed in 2015. Winner of the 4th edition of the National Rehabilitation Prize (Trade and Services category).
Church of Monsaraz, Monsaraz - Recovery and Requalification Project. Execution project delivered.
Igreja do Espírito Santo, Évora - Recovery and Requalification Project. Execution project delivered.
Tower of Menagem de Beja - Strengthening and Consolidation Project. Work completed in 2016.
