Luís Carlos Amaral is a professor in the Department of History and Political and International Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, a researcher at CITCEM (Center for Transdisciplinary Research "Culture, Space, Memory"), member of CEHR (Center for Historic Religious studies of the Catholic University of Portugal) and corresponding academic of the Portuguese Academy of History. He currently serves as Vice-President of the Ethics Committee of the University of Porto. Regarding research topics, he has selected studies on settlement and social organization of the territory (X-XIII centuries), as well as on Portuguese medieval ecclesiastical institutions. Among the several dozen of published studies, the most recent are: Half a Century of Rural History of the Middle Ages in Portugal: A Possible Overview; The Countess Queen Teresa (in collaboration with Mário Jorge Barroca).
